GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) — A man remains in police custody Wednesday after he was arrested for attempting to rob the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry by claiming that he had a bomb and was a member of the terrorist group, ISIS.
Police said that the unidentified man had walked into the bank and told a manager that he belonged to the terrorist group and would blow up the bank if he was not given GUY$10 million (US$40,000).
Security officers at the bank apprehended the man who was found with nothing more than a knife in his bag. The police was immediately called in and he was taken in to custody. Many of the bank’s employees only became aware of the man’s threats and demand after the police arrived.
