On 26th October at the Prime Minister’s Monthly Press Conference the question of whether a site has been chosen for the new Basseterre High School was directed to the Honorable Shawn K Richards.
Mr. Richards stated that it was on the 30th of September 2016 that two sites were chosen for the new Basseterre High School from amongst five options. One being Shadwell just above the roundabout into Monkey Hill with the other being Ponds area in the back of the mechanic shops.
In particular to the decision of the Basseterre High School in the Pond’s Area there had to be reports to make sure that there would be no contamination of the water table and that the Shadwell area site would cost the government $1.1 million to relocate the mechanics on hand and that the land would have to be graded which would cost a significant amount of money.
Mr. Richards reminded that the government has allocated $10 million to the construction of the new Basseterre High School which would not begin until 2017.
