Sugar Mas 48 was officially launched on Friday, and the season is off to a great start for the young songstress Miss Independent who pulled off a back to back female calypso crown.
The Female Calypso competition took place during the launch and Miss Independent Karisia Willett topped 7 other finalists, amassing 417 points for her song Bad Man Point of View.
Lady Destiny out of Nevis took first runner-up with ‘My father send me’ -387pts; second runner up was Queen Kibie with ‘Mind your own Business’ 386pts; and rounding out the top performers was third runner up Queen Diva with ‘Not a wonderful world – 375pts
The other female calypsonian finalists were Queen Brown Sugar – ‘Price of Peace’; Lil Miss ‘Vote for Me; Genesis ‘Where’; and Lady B ‘Age of Consent’.
The carnival launch saw the official introduction of the contestants for the National Swimsuit Pageant, National Carnival Queen Pageant, and Mr. GQ competition, youth calypso and soca artistes and talented teen contestants. The costumes for the Junior Carnival presentation for Sugar Mas 48 dubbed Fun Land were also debuted at the event.
