NEMA in collaboration with the University of the W.I, St. Augustine Seismic Research Center had mounted a week long public relations campaign to inform the public about the hazard posed by earthquakes and tsunamis. Dr. Joan Latchman U.W.I Seismologist, in an exclusive interview on Freedom FM’s Issues Tuesday said it was important for people to understand the history of earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis in the Caribbean but particularly in St. Kitts-Nevis. Dr. Latchman defined the terms earthquakes and tsunami and explained the likelihood of them happening at this time.
She went on to stress the importance of preparedness and what to do should an earthquake or tsunami occur in St.Kitts-Nevis.
NEMA Chief Carl Herbert told Issues listeners that the week long observance would focus on informing and educating the public about earthquakes and tsunamis.
