The double salary debate continued on Freedom Fm on Tuesday. At a town hall meeting last Thursday in Mc. Knight, Prime Minister Harris weighed in on the double salary received by Federal and Nevis Island Administration Ministers Amory and Brantley.
“They were prepared to everything to negate the will of the people of St Kitts and Nevis for change. It didn’t work and because it didn’t work they suddenly woke up with new ideas about participation in federal government and I say to them it benefited Parry and Patrice. Nothing was wrong with serving in local and serving in federal suddenly all of a sudden it burns them”.
However, Speaking on Freedom Fm’s popular Issues program on Tuesday, NRP representative Robelto Hector said the issue of the double salary received by Premier Vance Amory and Deputy Prime Premier Mark Brantley, was not the contemplation of the constitution for both officials to be receiving salaries greater than that of Prime Minister Harris and detrimental to Nevisians who were out of work.
Hector said no amount of spinning and justifications by Prime Minister Harris or the Concerned Citizens Movement could detract from the fact “that if it was wrong then, it is wrong now”.
Hector said it was a conflict of interest to be doing the double dipping when in opposition they rallied against the same practice. He maintained however that NRP’s Patrice Nisbett had resigned from the Nevis Island Administration to take up the Federal position and was never paid two salaries as was obtained now with Amory and Brantley.
