Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, the Honorable Shawn K Richards appearing on the Government’s weekly information radio program “Working for You” on Wednesday to commemorate one year in office of the Team Unity Government, denied that the Government is engaged in rampant and widespread victimization of Labour Party Supporters.
Richard said the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party had been granted permission to march against victimization on Friday, indicating that the Government is democratic and allowing nationals and organizations to express their fundamental rights and freedom. Richards declared that the victimization claims against the former Governor General Sir Edmund Lawrence were not so as he had resigned.
Richards pointed out that there were St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party supporters who were still employed by the Team Unity Government and who were given a chance and an opportunity to perform. Those who performed were kept and those who did not were repositioned.
Meanwhile Parliamentary Representative for Constituency #2, the Honorable Marcella Liburd is calling on the Government after one year in office, to cease and desist from its victimization practices.
Liburd referenced Dr Nordica Phillip, who was being trained in Cuba but whose studies were cut short by the Team Unity Government, but who was able to continue because of family support.
Liburd also referred to the case of Acting Superintendent of Police Rosemary Isles who was stripped and demoted because of political victimization.
Liburd further explained that the Team Unity Government was arbitrarily doing things in education without consultation with teachers or their union.
