Martinique will on Wednesday officially become an associate member of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States – OECS.
Its entry will increase membership in the sub-regional grouping to 10.
The historic signing will take place on 4th February during the opening ceremony of the 60th Meeting of the OECS Authority this week at the Hotel La Bateliere in Forte De France Martinique during the opening ceremony. The meeting will run from
In November 2013, the Regional Assembly unanimously voted in favour of Martinique ’s acceptance.
Since then, the OECS Commission has been treating the French dependency effectively as an Associate Member, and the territory has been attending regional meetings on matters such as health.
OECS Director General Dr. Didacus Jules describes as “historic” Martinique’s impending membership of the sub-regional grouping.
