Officials in St Kitts and Nevis formulating National Sports Policy

CricketFilePhoto-1Officials in St Kitts and Nevis are at present formulating a National Sports Policy, that disclosure from Sports Officer Vernon Springer. Mr Springer whilst guest on freedom Fm’s Good Morning St Kitts and Nevis the consultations are already underway to put systems in place that would reward investors in sports in St Kitts and Nevis.

Springer indicated that there has been a shift towards focusing on St Kitts and Nevis. He explained that the Department of Sports is currently working on initiatives to bring sporting events to the island. He revealed that there are talks about a football camp and even a golf charity tournament.

Springer also took the opportunity to provide the listeners with a schedule of the upcoming cricket matches to be hosted in St Kitts with includes a practice match between a local team and the touring Bangladeshi team.

A caller to Tuesday morning’s edition of Good Morning St Kitts and Nevis raised concerns about that practice match. The caller, who identified herself as a Nevisian, expressed outrage that Nevis was not having representation on that local team while Guyana, Anguilla and Montserrat were included.

In response to the caller’s complaint, Mr. Robert Jeffers Assistance Secretary of the St Kitts Cricket Association and the Secretary of the Leeward Island Cricket Association visited the studios.

Jeffers revealed that the decision was made to use the opportunity to holistically development cricketers from the Leeward Islands. Jeffers said that Mr. Keith Scarborough was contacted in Nevis.

He said however that there had been many issues with meeting with team selectors in Nevis.

Jeffers further charged that the Chairman of Selectors in Nevis had indicated that he was not interested.
