Pastor Cyprian Williams of the New Birth Gospel Tabernacle is holding a prayer vigil and demonstration outside Government Headquarters, in an attempt to reclaim land taken by the Team Unity Government, previously allocated and approved for his church.
The one man demonstration started on Tuesday night and will continue until Saturday. Pastor Williams told Freedom Fm Newsdesk on Wednesday morning that it is the will of God that he conducts this vigil to draw attention to the plight of the Church.
The prayerful Pastor recounted how the Church lands had been allocated and approved by the Building Board some 17 years ago in the Cabbage Tree Housing Development.
However, in October 2016, the Building Board informed him that the area previously allocated is a residential area and no longer available to the Church.
The Board requested until 6th February to find a suitable area for the construction of the new Church. A distraught Williams told freedom Fm that if the residential criterion is applied, then several churches in St Kitts and Nevis “would be in trouble”.
Pastor Williams further pointed out that he wrote letters to the Board and to Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris as the time had expired but to date has received no response.
Williams said this was an “unfair dimension” as the Church now had nowhere to worship and this coming Sunday they would be worshipping on the side of the road.
He called on Prime Minister Harris to intervene as he had written twice to him and went to see him at the Prime Minister’s request, but nothing had happened.
Williams acknowledged he was frustrated as the Church has a divine night to worship.
The New Birth Gospel Tabernacle will be holding a press conference on this matter on Sunday 5th March on Kyss Fm at 11am.
