Police force going to the dogs says top cop

COPCGWalwynOn Monday’s edition of Freedom Fm’s popular talk show “Issues.” Commissioner Of Police Dr CG Walwyn appeared to be irate at the direction that the royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force has taken since the election of the new Team Unity Government. Dr Walwyn who is in the US on leave, disclosed on Monday afternoon that his has tried to contact his Assistant Commissioner Ian Queeley and has not received any response. He further charged that he has written to the Prime Minister Hon Dr Timothy Harris and Attorney General Hon Vincent Byron and neither had responded.

Dr Walwyn specifically addressed the promotion of a female officer. Inspector Rosemary Isles under his leadership had received a letter indicating that she had been promoted to acting superintendent. It has been alleged that on Saturday she received a letter stating that her promotion had been revoked. Walwyn explained that since his appointment as Commissioner Of Police, he had recommended promotions for some twelve officers and that all had been done using the exact process as had been used to promote Officer Isle. Walwyn contends that gender bias is rampant with in the police force and that this may been the motivation for what he is has been an ongoing attack on Officer Isles.

He explained that the officer is the only one with the necessary qualifications to head the internal affairs unit. Walwyn says he feels that to remove her is clearly a step in the wrong direction.

The Commissioner also revealed that he before leaving the federation had sat down with Prime Minister Harris. He said during the meeting he had raised the concern that there had been a rumor circulating that officer Isles would be demoted if the government changed . He indicated that he warned against such action as there will be repercussions.

Dr walwyn said he had been fighting against gender bias since his appointment to the force.

Walwyn also addressed the fire storm of rumors that seemed to suggest that the officer may have been promoted as result of a person relationship with him. Speaking about a picture that had been circulated on social media Walwyn said that the rumors were lies. He said that while they had worked closely on a number of initiatives, there was no personal relationship at all.
