The high command of the Royal ST Christopher and Nevis Police Force is once again appealing to the general public to do their part to prevent crime within the community. Special guests on Monday’s edition of Freedom Fm’s popular talkshow “Issues”, acting Police Commissioner Stafford Liburd along with Assistant Police Commissioners Ian Queeley and Vaughn Henderson again outlined a six point plan that is geared towards tackling crime in the Federation.
This multipronged approach stresses stresses i) Crime Prevention ii) Intelligence-led Policing iii) Targeted Operations iv) Collaboration with other Agencies v) Engagement of Stakeholders and vi) Improvement in Administration. Crime Prevention calls for greater use of the Mobile Command Unit in various communities, high visibility policing, reinstating the Police Boys Club and strengthening the Teens and Police Service (TAPS) Academy and the Mentoring, Advising, Guiding and Instructing Children (MAGIC) programmes.
When asked specifically about the recent rise in homicides and armed robberies, Acting Commissioner Liburd called on the public to have confidence in the police and to share information. He explained that Crime Stoppers is an important tool that person should utilize.
