Dwyer Astaphan, who was a national security minister in St Kitts & Nevis,
said if a similar situation had occured in other parts of the world, the individual would have resigned forthwith.
“In some countries, if something like this happens at the house of the prime minister, the bigger fellas in the organisation, the head of the organisation, does not wait to be told to go home. He has to resign in disgrace…” Astaphan said.
“If two or three or six soldiers were supposed to be on the compound at the time; if they were there and it happened, then somebody, either has committed a criminal act, or dropped the ball, neither of which is acceptable….
“In a place like England, one of the top officers in the Defence Force would have resigned. The prime minister of England, he lost the Brexit vote. Nobody told him to go; he resigned.” Astaphan added.
The former Kittitian minister also said the practice of resignation within the region, over a particular matter, does not happen frequently.
