SKNLP Senator Nigel Carty says that Crime is out of control in the federation of SKN and referred to a recent spate of gun related robberies, murder and shooting sprees as evidence of this fact. Carty was speaking on Wednesday’s edition of “issue” and indicated that crimes are being committed in the middle of the day. Carty said business men and women are being targeted and being shaken down for their earnings.
Carty said in response to the rampant crime the Unity Government is attempting to muzzle the media, in particular national radio ZIZ, telling them not to print or publish incidents of violent crime.
Meanwhile Parliamentary representative for Constituency #2, The Hon. Marcella Liburd said the Unity Government has politicized crime. Liburd stressed that the Unity Government had a golden opportunity upon election to bring the country together, but refused to do this and instead encouraged their supporters to break the law in the aftermath of the general elections.
Liburd called on Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris as Minister of National Security to appoint a Commissioner of Police, and to stop the politicizing of the force. Liburd said one of the main crime fighting agents put in place by former Commissioner of Police CG Walwyn, The Delta force has been disbanded.
