SOME of the current generation of lovers’ rock singers thrilled the audience Wednesday at CRU Bar and Kitchen in Kingston, where the second Live in The City concert took place.
Tarrus Riley was the featured act and he more than made up for the hour-late start with a soulful performance.
Backed by Dean Fraser and the Blak Soil Band, Riley kicked off his set with Getty Getty. This was followed by a string of his hits including Human Nature, Contagious, Give Thanks fi Life and Never Leave I.
With the fans on a high, Riley declared: “Mi a go call up mi bredda from another mother,” inviting Bugle to join him on stage.
Bugle gave a short but enticing performance with Nuh Compatible, Excercise and I Don’t Worry.
Riley then brought up Duane Stephenson who also maintained the good vibe by performing Rastafari, Cottage in Negril and August Town.
Chevaugn was his other guest. The high point of his stint was seranding a female fan with Larry Graham’s One in a Million.
Tarrus joined Chevaughn and the two vocalists took part in a friendly clash of hit songs which included Beres Hammond’s Groovy Little Thing, Tracy Chapman’s Baby Can I Hold You and Gregory Isaacs’ Don’t Wanna be Lonely Tonight.
Part-proceeds from Wednesday’s show will go to Riley’s back-to-school drive.
