The new Team Unity government has “dealt a death blow to the Citizenship By Investment(CBI) programme”. That’s according to St.Kitts Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) Senator Hon Nigel Carty.
Carty as guest on Freedom Fm’s ISSUES program on Wednesday afternoon, revealed that he has information that suggests that the Team UNITY coalition whilst in government had made what he termed as deals with foreign governments to pass all applications for citizenship by investment through these foreign governments before approval. Carty explained that confidentiality is of utmost importance in the CBI program and this arrangement will in effect kill the program.
Meanwhile less that an hour later, speaking at his monthly press conference, St.Kitts-Nevis Prime Minister Hon Dr Timothy Harris addressed the CBI program.
In his opening remarks, Prime Minister Harris reported on his attendance at an international conference on citizenship and residency with a goal to promote St. Kitts-Nevis as a place open for legitimate business.
Dr. Harris noted that of high priority is the reform of the Citizenship by Investment Programme including reviewing the various agencies involved and drafting new legislation to govern the programme.
