Three people who have been accused of swindling $1,600 from the operator of a Chinese restaurant, are expected to face the court, tomorrow, after one of them was caught on camera adding a “secret ingredient — cockroach” to his Chicken Fried Rice meal.
Police have detained a 21-year-old woman, her 37-year-old boyfriend and a male accomplice for reporting to the employees at Hometown Restaurant in Jennings that their food contained cockroach. The trio reportedly collected the sum as a bribe.
Through an interpreter, the restaurant’s supervisor, Guo Wei Wu told OBSERVER media that at about 6:30 pm last Saturday, a man on a pair of crutches, his girlfriend and their eight-month-old daughter entered the eatery and bought a $10 plate of Chicken Fried Rice.
Soon after the couple collected their food, another man who was standing around the entrance to the business place, also collected the same meal and sat at a table inside the restaurant and began to eat.
Guo showed OBSERVER media a 26-seconds time lapsed video footage in which a man is seen sitting at a table eating his meal.
The man, wearing a white T-shirt took a mouthful of food from his styrofoam container, then removed a napkin from his left side and quickly shuffles it over the opened food container. The diner makes a second attempt, this time shuffling and unfolding his napkin, dumping the contents into the food and taking a quick glance over his right shoulder.
He follows up with a quick stir, as the young woman who was wearing a striped black and white maxi dress, makes her debut in the clip.
