Deputy Premier and minister of Information the Honorable Mark Brantley told Freedom Fm Newsdesk on Monday that the water situation on Nevis is back to normal.
Brantley pointed out that work to restore the Maddens Heights Well was successful and that the challenges faced with the output of water to certain communities in Nevis that created consternation in the public, has been now normalized.
“A new pump has been put in, tanks have been filled back up, pressures regularized and the water supply has returned to normal”. Brantley indicated that recent rains have also helped in the restoration process.
In addition, the NIA has invested 10.5 million EC dollars on the production of “new water” that would entail drilling new wells and infrastructure to make sure the supply exceeds demand.
Brantley said a confluence of factors led to the water issues such as full hotels, increase in tourism stayovers at the 4 Seasons, coupled with the dry season and bad pumps that led to water problems for the people of Nevis.
Brantley said the government had invested a further 30 million dollars in water upgrades, storage and distribution to ensure a ready supply of water for Nevisians at all times.
