Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher 3 (West Basseterre), Hon. Konris Maynard on Wednesday pledged his support to persons with disabilities.
“As a member of Parliament, the members of the SKNAPD, and persons with disabilities, can be assured of my support in making living in St. Kitts and Nevis a more pleasant and accessible experience as we do have ways to go in properly accommodating those among us with disabilities,” said Maynard, who joined members of the St. Kitts-Nevis Association of Persons with Disabilities (SKNAPD) in their “Walk in my shoes” in the streets of Basseterre.
The first-term parliamentarian, who walked blind folded through the streets of Basseterre said the “experience, without a doubt, gave me an even clearer appreciation of the challenges that persons with disabilities face every minute, every hour, and every day of their lives.”
Earlier in the week, a member of the St. Kitts-Nevis Association of Persons living with Disabilities (SKNAPD) publicly expressed his disappointment that representatives of the Team Unity Government had not attended a church service as the first event to mark a week of activities to commemorate “International Disability Day” on December 3rd.
“I’m beyond disturbed and disappointed! Today (Sunday) was the first of many festivities as they hosted a church service. After the association members reached out and invite every minister of government, sadly not even one showed up; not even a Permanent Secretary,” said Devrone Connor on his FaceBook page.
“We see why Kittitians-Nevisians refused to take disabled persons seriously, because our very own Government continuously show lack of interest in us. We can do better!” Connor wrote.
