WestIndies-1Renowned sports columnist Peter Adrien and Sports Director/Commentator Vernon Springer speaking on Freedom Fm’s Issues on Monday, congratulated the West Indies under 19 team, the West Indies women and senior West Indies team for completing a triple success in India as Champions of ICC 20/20 cricket.

On Sunday both the West Indies women and men’s team won in dramatic fashion over Australia and England, to bring home these 20/20 titles to the Caribbean.

Peter Adrien commented that the victory was sweet and worthy of praise because of the determination and application by the teams in the tournament.

Vernon Springer saw the victory as historic and something which would not be repeated in years to come.

Both panelists took West Indies cricket board to task for failing to provide adequate resources to the team and for unnecessary criticisms of their skills and the task and challenges that were ahead including scheduling, sponsors and field performances.

Following the victory over England to claim the second title, Windies captain Darren Sammy was critical of the West Indies board and will face disciplinary charges from the WICB for his comments following the game. Star batsman Marlon Samuels was also fined 30% of his match fees for unprofessional conduct by the ICC.
